Holy iPhone….

Posted on December 29, 2008 by MillerNo Comments

I’ve been waiting for months and months to get my hands on one of the iPhone 3Gs… I just couldn’t justify the monthly cost to myself….until now.  With the advent of the app store and all the articles I’ve been reading about the great things people are developing, I finally broke down and got one.  And I’m in love.

Here’s the thing.  For those of us who want to stay super connected, its the only tool to have.  But what I also like is that you’re in control of that connectivity via the amount and setup which apps you choose to run.

Here’s the point I really wanted to make though…  I truly believe that this platform (and future platforms like Android ((once it gets refined)) ) are really what’s going to make social networking and location based web services the next big thing.  I may even be a bit late on this one, but even with all the apps currently integrating web and GPS on a mobile platform, I think we’re just scratching the surface.

I also have found that web apps like Twitter and Google Reader, and Earth, almost perform better on the mobile platform than the desktop.  Twitter for sure as its so conducive to blasting out tweets as soon as they enter into your mind.  (I’ve also installed the Wordpress app but blogging just doesn’t work as well on that little keyboard).

Anyway, I’m a super happy camper right now and will certainly be blogging about how this platform gets integrated into my day to day, and rocks my world.

Vaynerchuk on Ego Searching

Posted on December 22, 2008 by MillerNo Comments

I’ve been a huge fan of Gary Vaynerchuk and WineLibrary TV for quite some time.  If you haven’t checked out the ThunderShow, you simply must.  Its become an almost daily routine for me and has really gotten me back into appreciating wine and wanting to learn more about it.

But, what I also love about Gary is that he really understands social media.  I mean really gets it.  Much more than I do.  He understands that its not just about making things ‘go viral’, but its about connecting people, and solving problems.

He’s got a great post (embed below) talking about ego searching and how you should be on top of what peopel are saying about you across the blogosphere, and not be afraid to interact with them.  Its a great way to get in touch with the opinions of both your fans and your critics and maybe solve some problems along the way.

Social Clutter…

Posted on December 18, 2008 by MillerNo Comments

I’m a huge fan of Seth Godin - a Seth Head even - and one of his recent blog posts really highlights for me what’s happening in the social networking landscape.  As usual he hits the nail right on the head.

From a user’s perspective, its a throwback to a ‘remember when (insert hip website, bar, band, clothing line here) was cool?’

I do remember when MySpace was the hippest, coolest thing going a few years ago.  You found long lost friends, and even connected with some new ones.   And the bands…. oh the bands.  I found some great music on Myspace and maybe some people even found me.  I was just as guilty as others for marketing my music through the network.

But now things are different.

I saw a  great post today via LogoDesignLove  that gives us an inside look at the evolution of the Barack Obama ‘08 logo.  There are some great great designs in there and some commentary on how the final design was arrived at.  Check out the Full Article
