Oh, Miller. Whole Foods = Whole Paycheck (as you discovered). And they (and Trader Joe’s) aren’t really the height of healthy food. In fact, many of their products still contain refined grains, loads of sugar (in its various forms), and sadness… in the form of smaller farm stands losing business to big bad WF and foods still being processed in giganto factories, not to mention products owned or supported in some way by Monsanto and other companies that could care less about sustainability or the health of consumers.
It’s certainly good to keep people interested in healthy, organically grown, sustainably produced foods, but instead of being awed by the shiny packaging of a well-designed mega-store, why not support your local farmers? NY state has a ton of really wonderful produce, dairy, and animal products. They may not carry the organic label or the variety of WF, but you’ll have the peace of mind of actually KNOWING where your food comes from. And you’ll save on packaging and shipping (and paying some dude to stock the shelves).
Also, not all Whole Foods employees are really nice. And they do have Pop Tarts. They’re just not called Pop Tarts. Just sayin’.
I know I’m a little late to the game, but…
